Shop by clicking your truck

work caughtlv.26 · Sep 2026· daimler

A concept for Excelerator: pick your truck, get a 3D model of it, and shop by clicking the part. No part numbers and no catalog tree.

field notes

Buying a part on a truck platform assumes you already know a lot. To buy a radiator you have to know it’s a radiator, know your model year, know what the catalog calls it, and find it in a tree organised for the warehouse. Fleet managers can do that. A lot of the people who keep trucks running can’t.

This concept skips all of it. You pick your truck, say a Cascadia or an M2 106, and Excelerator shows you that truck in 3D. You spin it, find the part you can see is broken, and click it.

What the video shows

The model opens exploded and then assembles, so you can see where everything lives before you start looking. Then you click: the radiator and charge-air cooler light up on the model, and the exact part appears next to it, ready to add to your cart. Switch trucks and the model rebuilds around the new one.

Why I think it works

  • You don’t need the vocabulary. The truck is the interface. You point at what’s wrong.
  • Fit is handled by the model. It’s your configuration, so whatever you click fits. No compatibility dropdown.
  • It can grow into the rest of the platform. The same truck could show warranty status, service history and what the fleet spends on parts. That’s the My Garage work, in 3D.

This is a concept and it hasn’t shipped. I’m confident in the interaction. What’s still open is whether a fleet’s mixed, ageing trucks can be modelled well enough to trust.
