field notes
The business opened My Garage to everyone with an account. Overnight it went from about 5% of customers to 100%, and the new people couldn’t find the information they cared about.
That made sense. The page was built to show a little information to a small group we already knew.
Design the big version, then cut
I started over. With input from existing customers, I designed a future state that could hold everything a fleet cares about: service history, warranty status, parts compatibility and downtime, with room to grow.
Then I cut it down, and kept cutting, until we had something we could ship on a much shorter timeline.
